AUG 15/23: SEASON 44 STORY DETAILS |
As previously announced, the season will begin October 7 and will consist of 6 stories followed by the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special. The first three stories will feature the Eleventh Doctor and companions Maggie and Kaylaar, who departs in the third story. The remaining three stories and the special will feature the Doctor and Maggie.
Details regarding the season finale (Sensed Presence) and the anniversary special (A Mild Curiosity In A Junk Yard) are being kept underwraps for the time being.
Details about the season are…
Story One: THE HORROR OF COUNT WAMPYR written by Hamish Crawford
Visiting the Stork Club in New York to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition, the Doctor, Maggie, and Kaylaar rescue a chorus girl from a grisly attack. This event carries some sinister connection to Aubrey Warner, recently returned from an archaeological expedition to Greece with a strange illness. It seems vampires are abroad in the Big Apple, and the not-so-legendary Count Wampyr is back from the (Un)dead. But who is aiding the Count in his foul resurrection?
Story Two: THE EVIL written by Matt Tovey
“There are powers and forces that could smash this paltry universe, this stinking sliver of reality, into bone and dust. I could do it, Doctor. I am that.”
The University of East Essex. Affluent, modern, and well regarded. A great place to study. There are students who graduate. There are students who drop out. And then there are students who die. Horribly, frequently and in inexplicable circumstances…
Story Three: HOMEWARD written by Hamish Crawford & Bob Furnell
With Kaylaar taking a turn for the worse, the Doctor has reluctantly agreed to visit the Frenazzi’s home planet of Koilara. There, he and Maggie find the planet’s Prelatory Triumvirate distrust Kaylaar for leaving their world—and others have been seeing the same visions of their Great Prophet, Katlannu. The search for answers will cause the Doctor to question his own certainties, and Kaylaar to reconsider the importance of faith.
Story Four: M.O.A.B. written by Rachel Redhead
A visit to prehistoric Earth lands the Doctor and Maggie with two new companions—famed Silurian warrior Azaxia and eighteenth century Madagascan orphan Simon Denon. When they move forward to Durham of the near future, they find Azaxia’s prowess is coveted by the invading Varanost. As Durham and its people are turned upside down, the Doctor wonders whether the solution proposed by a new generation of UNIT may be worse than the problem posed by the Varanost.
Story Five: TIMEBASE written by Daniel Tessier, Meg MacDonald & Hamish Crawford
Trying to return their new friend Simon home, the Doctor and Maggie stumble across the Timebase Project—a station grounded in the vortex, whose crew are slowly losing their connection to real time and space. Invaders from outside rewrite history, and only sending the station’s blueprints farther back can keep it on track. Can the Doctor reset time without sacrificing the crew or their attackers?
Story Six: SENSED PRESENCE written by Nick Krohn
The exciting season 44 finale.
Story Seven: DOCTOR WHO 60TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL: A MILD CURIOSITY IN A JUNK YARD written by Reg Cranfield & Hamish Crawford
